Better Than Human: Why Robots Will — And Must — Take Our Jobs

"It may be hard to believe, but before the end of this century, 70 percent of today’s occupations will likewise be replaced by automation. Yes, dear reader, even you will have your job taken away by machines. In other words, robot replacement is just a matter of time. This upheaval is being led by a second wave of automation, one that is centered on artificial cognition, cheap sensors, machine learning, and distributed smarts. This deep automation will touch all jobs, from manual labor to knowledge work."

  1. I feel that a move toward the use of machines when it comes to everday tasks and job is a move in the right direction as the effiecency of goods being made would be higher and cost less to run compared to the price and effiency of a human worker.

  3. nice link. if robots take over, humans wont have a living, therefore will not buy the products the robots make, and you have a very large and confusing circle of events. Either way, we will find out soon enough.

  4. The U.S. is being hit from all sides; other countries and now robots as well.
At least we retain the job of creating robots
...until the robots start manufacturing themselves.

  5. Where does Obama weigh in on this? That ignorant hippie won't declare a War on Robots because he's a socialist Kenyan muslim!
Here's a drinking game, lets take a drink every time Obama actually does something!

  6. It needs to be taken into account that the US is no longer a producing country but a consuming one. And for as far as knowledge goes, it is not possible to have machines control it because the machines need to be controlled by human intelligence. So heres a big SCREW YOU to this article. I mean think about it, there have been machines controlling the world, but then again the humans still manage to control it. The closest thing to this happening is outsourcing to some random asian countries. So there. People want cheap things and outsourcing is the fastest and easiest way to get like 20 tshirts for a dollar.. KMP

  7. Well... some jobs can be done with just automated machines, but some might require human operators. For example, drones can take the place of our bomber fleet, but maintaining air superiority/supremacy will always require a human in the cockpit.

  8. What happens when these robots malfunction or just dont work. i know it happens on tv mostly but how would we react if it was actually real?

  10. If our own creations were to take over our jobs, won't unemployment for the poor increase?

And Linda is right about unemployment, and i think we should just make robots do dangerous jobs
