Better Than Human: Why Robots Will — And Must — Take Our Jobs

"It may be hard to believe, but before the end of this century, 70 percent of today’s occupations will likewise be replaced by automation. Yes, dear reader, even you will have your job taken away by machines. In other words, robot replacement is just a matter of time. This upheaval is being led by a second wave of automation, one that is centered on artificial cognition, cheap sensors, machine learning, and distributed smarts. This deep automation will touch all jobs, from manual labor to knowledge work."

Why Apple and GE Are Bringing Manufacturing Back

"...some of the manufacturing jobs that were systematically shipped overseas for several decades—in the process, devastating US manufacturing and the US economy—are now coming back to America." Why Companies Outsource

"Wal-Mart is opening stores all over the world and hiring people to man them. The Wall Street Journal reports the company added 100,000 employees outside of the U.S. last year. How is the company supposed to staff its stores unless it hires nationals who live there and speak the language? Should Wal-Mart be forced to pay higher taxes, which is what the president wants, for growing and competing overseas?"

Outsourcing The American Dream

"The ramifications of outsourcing are staggering not only for individuals whose positions are terminated, but for the larger society. Unemployment and underemployment (working below one's level of skill and training) will contribute to a shrinking tax base, as already financially burdened city, county and state governments cut back personnel and services. In a nation where 15 percent of the population has no medical coverage, that figure can only increase as most people secure health insurance through their employment."
